VIII. THE CHURCH IN JERUSALEM SCATTERED AND PHILIP PREACHES

CHRIST (8:1-40).

A. Saul leads great persecution against the church in Jerusalem (8:1-4).

1. The scattered members preach the word in the surrounding regions of Jerusalem.

B. Philip preaches in Samaria (8:5-24).

1. Multitudes give heed to Philip's miraculously confirmed preaching of Christ (v.5-8).

2. Simon the practitioner of sorcery believes the gospel and is baptized (v.9-13).

3. Simon sins in trying to buy the apostles' ability to give miraculous gifts of the Spirit to others (v.14-24).

C. Peter and John return to Jerusalem and preach the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans (8:25).

D. Philip sent toward Gaza and preaches Jesus to a eunuch of Ethiopia (8:26-39).

1. Eunuch is baptized and joyously goes on his way.

E. Philip preaches on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean on his way to Caesarea (8:40).

IX. SAUL'S CONVERSION AND PETER'S MIRACULOUS WORKS (Chapter 9).

A. Saul journeys to Damascus (9:1-9).

1. Saul seeks permission of High Priest to bring disciples bound back to Jerusalem.

2. Saul blinded with bright light and hears words from the Lord.

3. Saul is led by companions into Damascus.

B. Ananias chosen by the Lord to speak to Saul - Saul is baptized (9:10-19).

            1. Ananias lays hands on Saul - Saul receives sight.

C. Saul immediately preaches that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God in Damascus (9:20-22).

D. Saul returns to Jerusalem after three years (9:23-30).

            1. Returns to Damascus from stay in Arabia after "many days" (3yrs.) and escapes by night in a basket through                   the wall (v.23-25; cf.Gal.1:17; 2Cor.11:32-33).

            2. Barnabas introduces Saul to apostles as disciples are fearful.

            3. Saul preaches boldly in the name of Jesus - disputes with Grecian Jews.

            4. Brethren bring Saul to Caesarea who goes to Tarsus in order to escape from death plot of Grecian Jews.

E. The church has peace and multiplies (9:31).

F. Peter miraculously heals palsied Aeneas in Lydda - Residents in Lydda and Sharon turn to the Lord (9:32-35).

G. Peter miraculously raises Tabitha from the dead in Joppa - many believe in the Lord (9:36-43).
