I. THE REIGNS OF JOASH AND AMAZIAH IN JUDAH, AND THE REIGNS OF JEHOAHAZ, JEHOASH AND     JEROBOAM IN ISRAEL (2 Kings 12-14; 2 Chronicles 24-25)


A. Reign of Joash, king of Judah (12:1-21; 2 Chron. 23:1-21; 24:1-27)

1. The character of his reign (v. 1-3; 2 Chron. 24:1-3, 17-19)

a. Began to reign at the age of 7 – reigned for 40 years

b. Did right and prospered in days when Jehoiada, the priest, instructed him

B. Reign of Jehoahaz, king of Israel (13:1-9)

1. The character of his reign (v. 1-2)

a. Reigns for 17 years

b. Did evil in the sight of Jehovah – followed sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat – calf worship; Asherah

2. Delivered unto the hands of the kings of Syria continually – delivered from Syria when the king beseeches                 Jehovah (v. 3-7, 22-23)

3. Death of Jehoahaz (v. 8-9)

C. Reign of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel (13:10-21, 25)

1. The character of his reign (v. 10-13)

a. Did evil in the sight of Jehovah – departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat – reigns 16                     years.

b. War with Amaziah, king of Judah

2. Comes to visit Elisha when Elisha is sick (v. 14-19, 25).

a. Shooting the arrow of victory

b. Victorious over Syria three times

3. Death and burial of Elisha (v. 20-21)

a. Incident of dead man being thrown upon bones of Elisha – man bought back to life.

b. Death of Joash (v. 13, 14:15-16)

D. Reign of Amaziah, king of Judah (14:1-22; 2 Chronicles 24: 27b – 25:28)

1. The character of his reign (v. 1-4; 2 Chron. 25:1-2, 14-16)

a. Began to reign at the age of 25 – reigned 29 years.

b. Did right in the eyes of Jehovah – but high places not taken away.

2. Kills servants who assassinated his father (v. 5-6; 2 Chron. 25:3-4)

a. Spared the children due to principle of man shall die for his own sin.

3. Slays 10,000 in Edom – 10,000 at “the rock” (v. 7; 2 Chron. 25:5-13)   

4. War with Jehoash, king of Israel (v. 8-14; 2 Chron. 25:17-24)

5. Final days of Amaziah and death (v. 17-22; 2 Chron. 25:25-28)

E. Reign of Jeroboam, the son of Joash, king of Israel (14:23-29)

1. The character of his reign (v. 23-24)

a. Reigned for 41 years

b. Did evil in the sight of Jehovah – departed not from sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.

2. Restores borders of Israel: from Hamath to sea of Arabah (v. 25-27)
